How to throw an amazing baby shower!

Over the past few years, baby showers have become increasingly popular with the mums to be. However, we all know that party’s can be a stressful time if they are not organised and managed correctly and stress is one thing that a mummy-to-be does not need! So here are a few of my pointers for throwing the perfect baby shower!

The first thing to consider is the theme! We all know that any good party needs a great direction! So If you’re planning one for your friend or family member, then try considering what their interests and hobbies are. This will help you decide on a theme for the baby shower. For example, if the mummy-to-be really enjoys tennis, you could have a tennis themed baby shower! Just ensure that it is a concept which everyone will understand and enjoy!

Decorations are also a major component of any party, so deciding on a colour is really important! Colours such as blue, yellow and pink are used commonly for baby shower decorations; however, you could look into using some bolder, more unique colours to help make your baby shower more memorable! Jewel tone colours, such as rose and purple are some great colours to use: along with lush colours, such as green! If you were wanting to add a classy touch to your baby shower, you could try adding some fresh flowers! This would work particularly well if the fresh flowers that are being used are the mum-to-be’s favourites! Other ways to help make the baby shower elegant are: you could add some trays of finger foods for people to nibble on and maybe even light some candles. Other decoration ideas can come from inspiration using the seasons. If the baby shower is being thrown in the summer, you could use vibrant colours like oranges and reds. You could add some fresh summery flowers and even some bunting! Summer fruits also can add to the decoration at the party. For a spring party, shades of yellows and greens are great colours to use. It gets everyone into that fresh feeling and spring is associated with new arrivals! For an autumn baby shower, yellows and golds are fab! Any colour that is rich and slightly burnt looking is associated with autumn. If you are still unsure, then just think of the colours you usually see on the ground and on the trees in the autumn time and that should give you plenty of inspiration! And finally, if you’re having a baby shower in the winter, crisp whites and icy blues are amazing colours to get everyone into the spirit. A Christmas themed baby shower could be an amazing idea. The rich comforting colours and the spicy smells which go with Christmas can be used to your advantage to help make your baby shower the most memorable!

When throwing a baby shower, the fun games are what can bring it all together and make the party memorable! A great game will lighten the mood, break the ice and even bring people closer together! Here are a few baby shower game ideas which I feel have been particularly memorable from all of my friends showers I have gone to! My first favourite is the baby pictures game. This is where you ask the guests, before the party, to bring some baby pictures of themselves. The host of the party will then collect all the photographs and place them on a board for everyone to see, along with some names that correspond with its picture. The guests of the party will then form groups and compete to match the baby pictures to the guest at the party. The group with the most correct answers, wins! Another firm favourite of mine is What’s In The Box? For this game, the guests will have to be placed into groups and paper and pens will be provided to the groups. The host will have created a box, which the guests cannot see into, and a hand hole will have been cut out on the side of the box. In the box, the host will have filled it with a number of baby related items; such as, rattles, dummies, nappies etc. The teams then have to compete to work out what is in the box and write their guesses down. The winner is decided by the host reading out the order of which the items where placed inside of the box and the team with the most correct answers wins! A little game which could be played at the start of the shower to help break the ice is guess the gender. This can be done if the gender of the baby is still unknown. The guests, as well as the hosts, can write down ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ and place into a box. At the end of the party, the hosts could count the number of slips for each gender and reveal the most common answer. After doing this, it could be a fun way for the mother-to-be to reveal the gender of the baby! This game helps to create some baby talk and allow everyone to get to know each other better and mingle more. Another great game I have played in the past is Dirty Diapers. This is a great game to play either in teams or singe players. You buy some nappies and several different types of chocolate. Place the chocolate in the nappy and melt it, simulating the look of poo. Then, you must decide by looking, smelling and tasting the chocolate to decide what chocolate it is! The people with the most correct answers win! This game is so much fun to play and gets everyone laughing! My final favourite game to play at a baby shower is a baby changing race! To do this, at the front of the room, have a table and two toy babies that are fully clothed and wearing a nappy each. Select two guests that will go against each other in the race and get them to stand next to their baby, ready for the race! The aim of this game is to remove the babies clothing and nappy and then put a new nappy on and dress the baby. The person who finishes changing their baby first is the winner. You could do this race several times and time each race and then have an ultimate winner, being the person with the quickest changing time over all!

My last tip for creating the perfect baby shower is the food. The thing to remember when it comes to parties and food is that it will always depend on the time of the party, as well as, how long your party is going to go on for. For example, if your party is starting at 2pm and will be ending around 5pm, then nibbles such as cakes, finger pastries and finger sandwiches would be perfect for these timings! However, if your party is taking place from 10am- 3pm, or, 6pm onwards, then it would be best to serve a larger amount of food. A way to overcoming having to cater for lots of people is to ask the guests to make something. Through doing this, it takes the pressure off of the hosts of the party to make lots of food before the event!

So there you have my advice on how to throw a fabulous, fun filled baby shower! I hope that you have enjoyed reading this blog post as much as I enjoyed writing it for you! As always, if you have any thoughts that you would like to add, then please feel free to leave a comment in the comment section!
